Biography:
Michael Ledford is beginning his first year of coaching at Cypress High School with the Junior Varsity team. He brings to the program 5 years of coaching experience, 3 years at the Junior Varsity level.
He began his coaching career in 2007 with La Serna High School. In his first two seasons with the Lancers, he was a Varsity training coach. He helped the team to an undefeated Del Rio League title and to the Quarterfinals of CIF in 2008. In 2009 he took the head coach position of the Junior Varsity team, which he coached for two seasons. In the two seasons, the team went 36-12 overall, with a second place finish in the Burbank Tournament in 2010.
Ledford is currently entering his fourth year coaching with Protégé Volleyball Club. Last season he head coached the 14 Yellow team and assisted the 15 Elite team. Mid Season, Ledford also took over the head coach position of the 16 Elite team. He guided the team to a 77th place finish in all of Southern California and a 47th place finish at the Volleyball Festival.
Ledford brings 4 years of indoor playing experience at La Serna High School with fellow coach Daniel “Jimmy” Hayashi. In 2007, Ledford was the Libero for the Varsity team that made it to the Quarterfinals of CIF. In 2008, he moved to the Outside Hitting position where he helped his team to an undefeated league title and reached the second round of CIF. He received Del Rio League Second Team and San Gabriel Valley's All-Area Second team honors, while being voted most inspirational on his team. He also played club two years with the Protégé 18 and under boy’s team. Currently, Ledford spends his time playing beach volleyball where he is working towards becoming a rated beach volleyball player.
Ledford is currently attending Cal State Long Beach, where he is currently working towards his BA in Classical Studies with a minor in History and receiving his teaching credential. He plans to teach Math or History and coach volleyball at the High School level.
Ledford is very optimistic about this season. “I’m excited to be here at Cypress. I have only heard good things about the program and when I got the opportunity to come share my knowledge with the game with this winning program, I was thrilled.”
